VP Spacecraft and Systems

ReOrbit is looking for a motivated Vice President, Spacecraft and Systems to join our team at our HQ in Helsinki, Finland.
As our new VP Platforms and System you will take the lead managing our small GEO, or SiltaSat, platform engineering team, encompassing the usual disciplines required for the design, assembly, integration and testing of such a GEO satellite. These include Mechanical, Thermal, Power, AOCS, Structure, Propulsion, Ground Segment and so on.
This person will be expected to work in close collaboration with the VP of Payload and Comms, the VP of Software and VP of Engineering (PA/QA) in the current SiltaSat product. This person should also support the COO organisation responsible for customer delivery, AIT and project management. Finally, this position will have a key role in designing and developing our next satellite generation.
This person should have demonstrable experience in overall system design and a deep knowledge and experience of working with existing space and ground supply chain companies, ideally from an existing and established space prime in the industry. Responsibilities
- Lead an expanding mid-sized satellite engineering team;
- Lead the design, integration, and validation of complex space systems;
- Requirements Engineering: collaborate closely with stakeholders to define and refine both technical and non-technical requirements;
- Subsystem Integration: coordinate across different engineering teams;
- Performing feasibility studies;
- Supporting business development with bids, providing technical information and supporting documentation.
Skills and Requirements
Essential
- At least 15 years' experience working as a systems engineer on satellite projects;
- Experience in the end-to-end design and building of GEO systems;
- Experience in leading mid-sized engineering teams and scaling them up;
- Broad leadership skills;
- Extensive commercial space industry experience;
- Full lifecycle experience from requirements to AIT and launch;
- Good understanding and exposure to different subsystems;
- Mission analysis and modelling;
- Knowledge of Space Industry Standards, such as NASA and ECSS.
Desired
- Experience working on geo-stationary communication satellite projects, possibly from a classic space prime, or a key supplier;
- Exposure to space start-ups would be a plus;
- Holistic thinking: Ability to approach problems and solutions with a comprehensive view, understanding how all subsystems and components interact within the larger system to achieve overall objectives. The candidate should be able to consider not just the technical aspects but also operational, environmental, and human factors in decision-making;
- Team Leadership and communication: Serve as a central communication point between engineering teams, project managers, and stakeholders. Foster collaboration, transparency, and clarity.
