Senior Robotic Systems Engineer

D-Orbit is looking for a Senior Robotic Systems Engineer to join our Robotics engineering team.
In this position, you'll lead system design, develop advanced controls, oversee integration, and manage key collaborations and subcontractors, driving innovation in challenging space environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead space robotic system design, from architecture to system-level engineering;
- Develop and implement advanced control algorithms for challenging space conditions;
- Conduct detailed analysis, modeling, and simulation for performance prediction and design optimization in harsh environments;
- Oversee rigorous integration and testing of robotic hardware and software, ensuring space-grade compliance;
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, software, GNC);
- Manage international subcontractors, serving as the main contact, leading technical meetings, and tracking documentation/actions;
- Define technical requirements, specifications, and verification plans for robotic systems;
- Participate in design reviews and problem-solving to drive continuous improvement;
- Stay current with advancements in robotics, space technology and AI.
Requirements:
- Master's or Ph.D. in Robotics, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field;
- 7+ years of experience in the design, development, and testing of robotic systems, with a strong focus on space applications;
- Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in robotics (e.g., C++, Python, Matlab, Simulink);
- Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment;
- Excellent problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of clearly articulating complex technical concepts;
- Professional proficiency in English.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with space-qualified hardware and software development processes (e.g., ECSS standards);
- Knowledge of vision systems and perception for robotic manipulation in space;
- Experience with collaborative robotics and human-robot interaction;
- Experience with robotic simulation tools (e.g., ROS, Gazebo, V-REP);
- Fluency in Italian.
