Senior System Engineer
ReOrbit
Helsinki, Finland
As our Senior Systems Engineer, you will take the lead on designing and developing our systems, whilst supporting and mentoring other members of the team. Your extensive hands-on experience of working on satellite ecosystems means you can start contributing immediately to our projects.
This role requires someone who has worked with stakeholders and defining requirements through design and development of the system, working with suppliers and into AIT, launch and operation phases. It’s a pivotal role, working inter-disciplinarily with the Ground and space subsystems.
Responsibilities
- System Design: Support the design, integration, and validation of complex space and ground systems, ensuring that every component works in harmony to meet the projects or product’s objectives.
- Requirements Engineering: Collaborate closely with stakeholders to define and refine both technical and non-technical requirements, ensuring clarity and alignment with mission goals. CONOPS/OPSCON, use cases development.
- Performing feasibility studies.
- Supporting business development with bids, providing technical information and supporting documentation.
Skills and Requirements
Essential
- At least 6 years' experience working as a systems engineer Satellite industry including simulation infrastructure and system modelling.
- Full lifecycle awareness, through all phases of a project, from requirements to AIT and launch.
- NASA Standards: Familiarity with NASA’s systems engineering standards, including NASA Systems Engineering Handbook (SP-6105) and other relevant technical standards.
- ECSS Standards: Strong understanding of ECSS standards related to systems engineering, particularly ECSS-E-ST-10C (System Engineering General Requirements), and other relevant standards such as ECSS-Q-ST-10C (Product Assurance). Experience applying these standards in the design, development, and validation of space systems.
- Experience developing and executing verification & validation (V&V) test plans, procedures, and reports.
- Ability to plan and execute integration, verification, and validation (IV&V) test activities.
- Ability to review, understand, gather and refine stakeholder needs across operations, user, client, and ground segment communities.
- Familiarity with developing and decomposing technical requirements, conducting feasibility analyses, and supporting conceptual design activities.
- Working knowledge of trade-off analyses, feasibility studies, and conceptual design reviews.
- Experience with spacecraft and ground system models (e.g., Flight Dynamics, AOCS, propulsion, thermal, payload, TT&C, etc.).
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to interface with software engineers, technical managers, product assurance and configuration/documentation management (CADM).
- Proven ability to perform integration, verification, and validation testing in complex systems.
- Experience with evaluating simulation infrastructure, spacecraft, and ground system models.
Desired
- Experience working on geo-stationary communication satellite projects.
- Holistic thinking: Ability to approach problems and solutions with a comprehensive view, understanding how all subsystems and components interact within the larger system to achieve overall objectives. The candidate should be able to consider not just the technical aspects but also operational, environmental, and human factors in decision-making.
