The Role

Reporting to the Avionics Engineering Manager, the Avionics Lead Engineer will serve as the technical authority for avionics and electrical systems design and development for our UAV and GCS. They will take accountability for the design, integration, and delivery of electronic systems and for ensuring that specifications are built into the production and quality control systems of our manufacturing team. The Avionics Lead Engineer will provide technical leadership and mentorship to the team, while role modeling the Dronamics culture and nurturing a high engagement and productivity environment.

The Responsibilities

  • Overseeing design, development, and transfer to production for systems and electronics;
  • In collaboration with program and company leadership, develop world-class processes, standards, and practices for Avionics inclusive of Verification and Validation of Avionics hardware, software, and complex electronic hardware; along with accountability for ensuring that these standards and practices are effective, efficient, and compliant;
  • Oversee and develop New Product Integration (NPI) process and NPI program management;
  • Collaborate/coordinate with the Avionics Engineering Manager and Senior Management to develop short and long-term product and manufacturing process roadmaps, and associated transfer to production;
  • Collaborate/coordinate with the Avionics Engineering Manager to support long-term technology and Intellectual Property roadmaps;
  • Develop and maintain common software, select components, and associated tooling that can be effectively leveraged across the company.

Your Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in a relevant field (Electrical, Aerospace, or similar);
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in avionics or electrical systems engineering;
  • Demonstrable experience in configuration, integration, and testing of avionics systems;
  • Experience with system testing and troubleshooting on test rigs or on aircraft;
  • Experience working with Avionics and Electrical systems including Power generation/distribution, Navigation, Communication, and Mission systems;
  • Knowledge of common interfaces including CAN, Serial, Ethernet;
  • Awareness of Aerospace standards (DO-160, DO-178, DO-254);
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of the full development, verification, and certification lifecycle for safety-critical avionics and/or flight control systems;
  • Experience working with autopilots, configuring CAN and RS232 interfaces, defining wiring diagrams, layouts, and wiring connectors;
  • Broad working knowledge of radio, SATCOM, software development, electronics, and electro-mechanical systems;
  • Experience in managing and leading product and new technology development for commercial markets;
  • Strong process management experience as well as R&D know-how;
  • Demonstrates a spirit of learning, coaching, and continuous improvement;
  • Demonstrates a practical mindset by spending significant time on the factory floor;
  • System design and development, openness to innovation and change.
