Turbomachinery Engineer (Propulsion)

We are seeking a propulsion design engineer to join our Propulsion team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the development of our advanced liquid rocket propulsion system, with a specific focus on turbomachinery design. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge propulsion systems and contribute to groundbreaking space missions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred).
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in turbomachinery system design.
- Solid understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and combustion processes.
- Advanced skills in MATLAB environment.
- Proficiency in CFD, predominantly OpenFOAM and Ansys Fluent.
- Experience with commercial FEA software.
- Experience with CAD software and design tools (Autodesk Fusion 360 preferred).
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Advanced proficiency in technical English, both written and spoken.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own critical components and be responsible for design, analysis, test specifications and optimization of turbomachinery components for MR5, our Kero-Lox liquid rocket engine.
- Conduct detailed performance and fluid dynamical analyses to ensure efficiency and reliability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate designs and assemblies with overall propulsion system.
- Document design processes, analysis results, and test findings comprehensively.
- Utilize computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and other simulation tools to validate performance.
- Testing:
- Define test campaign requirements to assess performance and reliability of the system.
- Review test report and advance the design process accordingly.
- Manufacturing:
- Support manufacturing of turbomachinery components to identify critical capabilities and main requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to components manufacturing.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in propulsion technology.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with liquid rocket engine development and testing.
- Familiarity with additive manufacturing techniques applied to turbomachinery components.
- Knowledge of cryogenic propellants and their handling.
- Experience with test facility operations and instrumentation.
