Telecommunication Systems Engineer

Duties
- Design and analyze satellite communication systems, including size and number of beams, bandwidth, coverage, … to meet system requirements (capacity, throughput, …)
- Develop RF link budgets and conduct performance assessments using (custom) simulation tools
- Design modulation, coding, and multiplexing techniques for reliable satellite links
- Work with the designers and the customer on high-level architecture
- Support all aspects of the development chain: requirements, architecture, design, manufacturing, integration, test, operations
- Work on RF/telecommunication spacecraft architecture with various teams (e.g. RF, electrical, software, FPGA, network)
- Support design reviews to ensure requirements and interface compliance
- Work closely with external providers of telecommunication systems to review designs, identify, and resolve issues and develop integration and test approaches
- Execute in-lab testing and on-orbit performance validation, using advanced RF measurement tools (spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and signal generators)
Must have
- MSc or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- 3+ years of experience in telecommunication systems, RF electronics or antenna
- Knowledge of telecommunication payloads and one or more standards (e.g., DVB-S2X, DVB-RCS2, 5G, CCSDS, …)
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously across teams and company to drive multi-disciplinary projects to completion
- Good communication skills
- Fluency in English
Nice to have
- A passion for technology and rapid execution of sophisticated space missions
- Experience in frequency coordination (ITU, FCC)
- Experience working on telecommunication satellite constellations
- Experience with RF systems analysis tools (SystemView or equivalent custom tools)
- Knowledge of software-defined radios (SDR) and digital signal processing (DSP)
- Knowledge of RF subsystems (transponders, antennas, amplifiers, frequency converters, SSPA,…)
- Experience with interference analysis
- Experience with scripting language (Python)
- Experience in space industry
- Willing to work out of your comfort zone
