Space Systems Engineer in Missions Sales
Space Inventor
Aalborg, Denmark
Are you a systems engineer with a passion for satellite missions and early-phase spacecraft design? Do you thrive at the intersection of customer dialogue, system engineering, satellite design, and technical proposal development? Then this role could be your next mission.
You can be based in Copenhagen (Denmark), Leuven (Belgium), or Aalborg (Denmark) — whichever location suits you best.
The Role
As a Systems Engineer in our sales department, you will play a key role in the early design and sales phases of customer satellite projects. You will translate mission objectives and customer requirements into spacecraft concepts, preliminary system designs, and technical budgets, forming the backbone of high-quality technical proposals.
You will work closely with internal system engineers, subsystem experts, and project managers to define satellite architectures using Space Inventor’s in-house avionics and spacecraft building blocks. Being part of the sales department, your work typically spans from Phase 0 / pre-Phase A through pre-PDR, followed by a structured handover to the delivery and engineering teams.
You will shape the very first design decisions of our satellite missions—turning early ideas and customer visions into concrete spacecraft concepts that, after contract signature, are refined, built in-house, and ultimately launched into orbit.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Sales & Customer Engagement
- Participate in customer meetings to understand mission objectives, customer requirements, constraints, and priorities.
- Capture, structure, and refine customer requirements and translate them into system-level solutions and mature satellite designs.
- Act as a technical interface between customers, sales managers, and internal engineering teams during the sales phase.
Spacecraft Concept Design & Analysis
- Develop satellite design concepts tailored to customer missions.
- Perform preliminary system analyses and technical budgets, including:
- Mass, power, link, and performance budgets.
- Avionics and subsystem trade-offs.
- Identify new modules and technologies needed to satisfy the missions requirements.
- Design and draft mission concept of operations.
Technical Proposal Development
- Lead or contribute to the creation of high-quality technical proposals.
- Draft clear and compelling technical descriptions, system overviews, and concept justifications.
- Support internal cost and effort estimations in work package descriptions by providing well-defined technical inputs.
Internal Collaboration & Handover
- Work closely with system engineers, domain experts, sales managers, and project managers.
- Ensure a smooth handover from sales to execution, with well-documented system definitions and assumptions.
- Support continuous improvement of internal tools, methods, and reusable proposal assets.
Your Profile
You are structured, thorough, and comfortable working in early design phases where requirements evolve and trade-offs matter.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience with space systems and a solid understanding of:
- Satellite avionics modules.
- Systems engineering principles and practices.
- Hands-on experience or strong interest in early-phase spacecraft design (Phase 0 / A, pre-PDR).
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent English skills, both written and spoken.
- Proficient in working in a team and speaking with customers and many colleagues internally in the organization.
- A background in customer-facing technical roles, pre-sales, or proposal work can be a plus.
