ReOrbit is looking for a Lead Flight Payload Software Engineer to join the ReOrbit team to lead the design and development of robust mission-critical flight payload software for our current satellite product lines UKKO, SILTA and future missions. This opportunity will enable you to drive the direction, experience and growth of the flight payload software team.

This role can be based either in our headquarters in Helsinki, Finland or in Bristol, UK.

We are looking for an experienced dynamic leader able to take authority, inspire and guide the team in a trans-national agile environment. Ability to communicate and work collaboratively with the other software teams and wider discipline throughout the full product lifecycle is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design and lead development of robust mission-critical flight payload software systems;
  • Take technical responsibility for all stages in the software development process;
  • Team leadership of flight software engineers and mentoring of early careers;
  • Analysis of customer requirements and flow down into the software design and risk identification;
  • Ensure that the design balances functional, service quality and systems management requirements;
  • Deliver technical documents and estimates for proposals and reviews;
  • Assist in defining the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and work packages;
  • Enforce configuration management of all data related to flight payload software;
  • Support to reviews at all levels of the design, development and testing;
  • Liaise with customers and subcontractors on technical issues;
  • Provide support to Assembly, Integration and Test teams;
  • Perform Work Package Management tasks, which may include but is not limited to:
    • Assign work to the team as required and monitor performance;
    • Escalate any major issues/risks with project management initially for review and action.

Skills and Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years' working with mission critical software;
  • Experience satellite projects, experience with operations an advantage;
  • Ability to analyse data, derive conclusions, and manage design documentation as well as review and approve design changes;
  • Comfortable working closely with external vendors and consortium partners. Enjoys working collaboratively as part of a team;
  • Fluent written and spoken skills in English.
