Structural Analysis Engineer

Structural Analysis Engineer

Pangea Propulsion

Barcelona, Spain

About the role

As a Structural Analysis Engineer, you will be a key technical contributor within Pangea Propulsion’s Structural Analysis team, operating with autonomy on thermomechanical, dynamic, and nonlinear structural problems. You will own analysis campaigns end-to-end: from problem framing, modelling, validation, to results interpretation and design recommendations - directly influencing the architecture, performance, and robustness of the next generation of propulsion systems.

Your work will include a wide variety of tasks, ranging from static thermomechanical analyses to modal, complex eigenvalues extraction, and frequency or time-based dynamic analyses, with a particular focus on rotating machinery.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform and lead FEA campaigns including static, modal, thermo-mechanical, dynamic and transient analyses, dealing efficiently with non-linear problems (contacts, plasticity, large deformation etc.)
  • Plan, build, verify, document and maintain high-fidelity FE models with traceability to loads, material properties, requirements, and assumptions.
  • Provide clear, actionable design feedback to mechanical design and propulsion teams at both part and subsystem level.
  • Develop and improve analysis methodologies, scripts, subroutines, benchmarks, and guidelines.
  • Participate in design reviews, presenting methods, assumptions, results, and recommendations with clarity, conciseness and technical rigor.

What you need to be successful

  • Master’s degree (or higher) in Aerospace, Mechanical, or related engineering disciplines.
  • 3+ years of experience performing advanced structural analyses using commercial FEA tools (preferably Abaqus).
  • Proven ability to run structural static and dynamic analyses with high independence, including thermomechanical, linear and non-linear, modal and other dynamic analyses.
  • Strong understanding of structural mechanics, vibrations, fatigue, fracture, material behavior, and numerical methods.
  • Demonstrated experience framing analysis problems, defining assumptions, and ensuring consistency with loads and system requirements.
  • Ability to interpret results critically, identify anomalies, and propose sound engineering solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills = able to articulate assumptions, limitations, and design implications clearly to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proactive mindset, ownership attitude, and passion for sharing knowledge and elevating team capability.
  • Fluent English.

Other useful skills

  • Experience in any of the following topics: fatigue (high cycle and low cycle), fracture mechanics, rotordynamics, test-correlation, topology optimization or probabilistic structural methods.
  • Knowledge of rocket propulsion systems: injector heads, thrust chambers, turbomachinery, feed systems, thermal & dynamic environments, etc.
  • Proficiency with meshing tools (e.g., MeshWorks) and scripting languages (Python, MATLAB).
  • Experience writing Abaqus subroutines (UMAT, USDFLD, UEL, etc.).
  • Experience working with ECSS, AIAA and other aerospace structural verification standards.
