Mission Brief

As a Controls & Automation Engineer, you will join us on the arctic island of Andøya, where you will work on existing ground equipment PLC systems, as well as plan, program and commission new control systems.

In close collaboration with the local operations team and our Control Systems team based in Germany, you will ensure that our control systems run safely and reliably, and can compete with the top of the class launch facilities around the world.

Additionally, you will support operations with trouble shooting and check-outs of ground systems and vehicle test harnessing, while ensuring our systems are adapted to the test and launch campaign needs.

Your Role in Our Space Mission

  • Develop, maintain and improve PLC software for ground equipment
  • Design PLC hardware setups and PLC-related networks
  • Upgrade and adapt systems for smoother, safer and more efficient operations
  • Increase the automation level of our facilities
  • Perform risk analyses and design safety-critical electrical systems
  • Support test and launch campaigns

Qualification Checklist

  • A degree in electrical engineering, automation technology, or similar, or training as a certified engineer in automation technology
  • 2+ years of experience in automation and PLC technology, preferably using Beckhoff PLCs
  • Experience in the field of PLC programming (soft-PLC) preferably using Beckhoff TwinCAT 3 or CODESYS based systems
  • Experience in technical support and troubleshooting – in the field or remotely
  • Knowledge about fieldbus systems
  • Basic understanding of electrical schematics
  • Knowledge of sensors/sensor signals and test equipment
  • Experience designing and building PLC systems to EU and international standards
  • Ability to perform in high-stress environments
  • Highly organised, effective team player with high attention to detail
  • Able to adjust self-sufficiently and quickly to a highly dynamic work environment
  • Physical dexterity is required as working in confined spaces is necessary (including the ability to lift 25kg without assistance)
  • Fluency in English (Norwegian and German can be helpful)
  • Class B driver’s license

Bonus Skills

  • Experience with functional safety system design and implementation
  • Experience in testing environments
  • Experience with commissioning of new systems/facilties
  • Basic understanding of fluid systems
