Mechanical Design Engineer (MJF Senor & RF Structures - EVO)

Mechanical Design Engineer (MJF Senor & RF Structures - EVO)

DeltaQuad

Duivendrecht, Netherlands

As a Mechanical Design/Creative Engineer, you will design, prototype, and bring to life advanced mechanical and structural solutions for UAV systems. Your focus lies on sensor integration, RF payloads, and lightweight, high-performance components.

You operate at the intersection of creativity and execution, turning field feedback, failure data, and real-world insights into rapid design improvements. Your work directly impacts UAV reliability, resilience, and performance in demanding environments.

Key responsibilities

Design & Prototyping

  • Design and optimise mechanical components, sensor mounts, RF structures, and payload integrations
  • Develop complex 3D CAD models and assemblies in SolidWorks (surfacing, configurations)
  • Leverage additive manufacturing (MJF, SLS, FDM, SLA) for rapid prototyping and low-volume production
  • Work with advanced materials such as PA12, carbon composites, and high-temperature polymers
  • Design for manufacturability: tolerances, wall thickness, support strategies, post-processing
  • Create modular, serviceable designs for fast field repair and replacement

System Adaptation & Validation

  • Translate real-world feedback into fast design iterations
  • Perform structural analysis (hand calculations + basic FEA)
  • Validate designs against stress, vibration, thermal, and environmental conditions
  • Ensure aerodynamic efficiency of external components (fairings, radomes, pods)
  • Design with sealing, crash tolerance, and EMC considerations in mind

Integration & UAV Performance

  • Develop low-drag housings and payload structures for UAV platforms
  • Understand how design choices affect flight stability, endurance, and performance
  • Ensure compatibility across systems, payloads, and configurations

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with Integration, Flight Test, and Software Engineers
  • Participate in hands-on assembly, testing, and validation (lab & field)
  • Explore new materials, manufacturing techniques, and design approaches
  • Maintain strong documentation and configuration control using PDM

What you bring

Background

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial Design, or Mechatronics Engineering
  • ~3–8 years of experience in UAVs, aerospace, robotics, or advanced hardware
  • Proven experience delivering real-world hardware (frames, gimbals, radomes, sensor pods)
  • Comfortable working in fast design–build–test cycles

Technical skills

  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (surfacing, assemblies, configurations) and PDM
  • Hands-on experience with additive manufacturing (MJF, SLS, FDM, SLA)
  • Solid understanding of advanced materials (PA12, carbon fibre composites, reinforced polymers)
  • Experience with structural analysis, vibration design, and basic FEA
  • Knowledge of aerodynamics in small UAV systems
  • Familiarity with FMEA, CFD, and EMC-aware design is a plus

Your mindset

  • Hands-on engineer who enjoys being in the lab (or hangar)
  • Thrives under pressure and embraces rapid iteration
  • Balances speed with precision and structural integrity
  • Creative, pragmatic, and solution-driven
  • Strong discipline in documentation and version control
