Mission Brief

As a (Senior) Design Engineer within the system integration team, you will find yourself at the heart of product development related efforts across Isar Aerospace. You will be responsible for fluids related hardware design and development, from its early conception, to its qualification and integration into the final product. Additionally, you will oversee integration of various systems and components into the global launch vehicle, while ensuring their functionality. Furthermore, you will work closely with a passionate team, as well as the rest of highly motivated colleagues across other teams/departments. You will play a crucial role in getting our orbital launch vehicle designed and built.  

Your Role in Our Space Mission:

  • Fluid hardware focused design and development: High pressure & cryogenic pipes, manifolds, fluid fittings, fluid storages, and their support structures;
  • Fluid hardware qualification: Test plan definition and documentation/test execution oversight;
  • Implementation and maintenance of engineering change requests;
  • Integration of designs into global assemblies;
  • Product requirement & verification definition efforts;
  • Preparation of detailed product development road maps and maintenance of their timelines;
  • Preparation of design reviews, risk assessments, trade-off studies, etc.;
  • Communication with the affected stakeholders (e.g. production, assembly, other engineering departments) to ensure efficient development of products;
  • Interface management.

Qualification Checklist

  • Min. bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering or similar;
  • 2+ years of experience in hardware design and development;
  • Proficiency with design engineering tools such as NX, TeamCenter, Solidworks or similar;
  • Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) and product data management (PDM);
  • Strong knowledge in various manufacturing methods (e.g. milling, turning, metal sheet, composite or additive manufacturing);
  • Experience with standards (e.g. DIN, EN, ISO, AN/AS, LN);
  • Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T);
  • Results orientated with ability to plan and deliver against project deadlines;
  • Resilient, self-motivated and able to work well under pressure;
  • Highly organized and proactive with high attention to detail;
  • Fluent English language skills.

Bonus Skills:

  • Experience in launch vehicle design, manufacturing, or assembly techniques for structure and fluid systems;
  • Experience in aerospace hydraulic system component design;
  • General knowledge of aerospace/aviation hardware design;
  • Knowledge of fabrication, integration processes, and quality control relative to tubes/piping and machined components;
  • Hands-on hardware production or assembly experience;
  • Proficient German;
  • Lean production knowledge.
