Earth Observation Data Services Trainer and User Support Expert

We are looking for a dynamic, detail-orientated and user-focused training specialist or remote sensing specialist with experience in Earth observation to join our service team and work on projects for our client, EUMETSAT. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their experience designing and delivering training for a scientifically oriented audience, a proficiency in high level programming languages (preferably Python), and a clear desire to help users get the most out of online data access services through user support and training activities.

Roles and responsibilities:

• Define and maintain a training strategy for the data access services, setting out target audiences, learning objectives, delivery formats and an annual training plan, and reviewing it against uptake and user feedback;
• Prepare and deliver user training informing users on technical aspects of the data access services, addressing FAQs and presenting use cases;
• Organise and run events to train users how to use the online data access services and the Hosted Processing service;
• Contribute to the user support: responding to user inquiries, maintaining user documentation, issuing notifications and promoting the data access services;
• Support community and network development through online communication platforms (e.g. Slack, Rocket.Chat), implementing user knowledge sharing events and webinars;
• Report on user training activities and propose improvements.

Required qualifications, skills and experience:

• University degree (or equivalent experience) in remote sensing or any relevant field (e.g. physical/Earth science discipline);
• 3+ years' experience working with Earth observation products and data services;
• Proficiency in a high level programming language (preferably Python);
• Experience in the preparation of training materials;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to support the production of technical document preparation, web content, video recordings and live demonstrations;
• Able to present in front of an audience, whether in a live demonstration, a webinar or a recorded tutorial;
• Ability to work as part of a team and with external stakeholders;
• Highly organised and detail orientated;
• User focused;
• Fluency in English.

Desirable but not mandatory:

• Familiarity with EUMETSAT's data access services (Data Store, EUMETView, EUMDAC, Data Tailor) or comparable API-based data access services;
• Experience maintaining a training infrastructure in a cloud environment: scripts to create VMs, account management and system administration of training machines;
• Experience using Jupyter notebooks as a teaching/ demonstration medium;
• Experience supporting trainers in the use of such environments;
• Familiarity with current trends in big data access: API use, hosted/cloud-processing systems;
• Experience of generating and working with cloud-optimised data sets;
• Understanding of software lifecycle versioning, deployment, QA;
• Knowledge of the organisational structure and working practices of operational space agencies and the Copernicus programme.

This role is offered as a part-time position with the possibility to increase to full-time after 18/24 months.
