    LSE Space GmbH is truly an international company with widespread expertise in large international projects - often crossing multiple organizational, cultural, and technological barriers.

    LSE Space is looking for an experienced Engineer (m/f) in order to fulfil the duty of: 

    SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR

    for our customer ESA/ESOC  in Darmstadt/Germany.

     

    For our activities in the European Space Agency, we are currently seeking to employ a highly motivated and enthusiastic SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR to work in an exciting innovative international environment

    The role will be part of a newly established Network Operations Centre (NOC) tasked with coordinating, configuring and monitoring activities related to the ESA ground segment, specifically the Telemetry, Tracking and Command (TT&C) stations of the ESTRACK ground station network.

    The NOC is responsible for providing 1st and 2nd line support to the ESA space missions and its users.

    It provides Ground Operations, Operational IT and Operational Control Centre services and acts as single point of contact for real-time service requests from ESTRACK customers.

    Description

    As System Administrator, you will have the opportunity to support provision of ESA Ground Facilities Operations Services. In particular, you will provide system engineering, maintenance and operations for the Mission Operations Infrastructure Information Technology (the network and the communication system).

    This position is based in Network Operations Centre (NOC), responsible for the provision of ESA Ground Facilities Operations Services, which includes the monitoring and control of ESA’s Tracking Station Network (ESTRACK) as well as the underlying Mission Operations Infrastructure Information Technology (MOI-IT) and Operations Control Centres (OCC).

    Task and Activities

    ► System installation

    ► Configuration and maintenance of software products

    ► Systems test and validation

    ► System rebuilds and data restoration

    ► Systems administration

    ► Installation and management of user accounts, including the management of user administration rights where authorised in coordination with the Service Desk

    ► Maintenance and administration of the shared infrastructure, e.g. virtualization and storage environments

    ► Handling of incidents passed from 1st level (CCC Service Desk)

    ► Diagnosis and reporting of software faults, including escalation to 3rd line support if necessary

    ► Performance measurement and accounting

    ► System and sub-system performance evaluation and optimization

    ► Support to problem analysis, with appropriate reporting

    ► Arranging for software backups and restoring from backup on request

    ► Sustaining replacements

    ► Decommissioning and disposal

    ► Consultation to the user community

    ► Production of utilities/interfaces for user applications

    ► Production of simple scripts and consultation on script writing

    ► Administrate and configure the tools used to monitor the MOI-IT infrastructure.

    ► Change Management

     

    Skills and Experience

    The following skills and experience are mandatory:

    ► You have professional qualifications in the relevant disciplines.

    ► You have a significant knowledge and a minimum of 5 years’ direct experience in the area of administration of software & systems.

    ► You have a demonstrable ability to analyse complex systems and present them in a comprehensible way to across other technical and managerial domains, with the specific ability to understand and communicate the relevant detail (whilst maintaining focus on the overall system-wide aspects).

    ► You have experience with estimating and scheduling of multiple concurrent technical activities such that milestones and their likely achievement can be communicated.

    ► You have good communication skills, in terms of experience in authoring technical and project documentation, and then being able to present it to a broad audience in English.

     

    The following skills would be highly desirable:

    ► Internet Protocol network design, specification, documentation, testing, fault finding, and evolution.

    ► You possess in-depth knowledge of Cisco design methodologies, technologies and solutions (ideally including enterprise WLAN infrastructure). It will be beneficial if the key person holds current Cisco certification(s) or equivalent

    ► You have security skills associated with securing the communication system (eg next generation Firewalls, VPN, intrusion detection and prevention, strong authentication).

    ► You are familiar with IP based Telephony Systems

    ► Preference will be given to candidates eligible for an EU or national personal security clearance at the level of SECRET or above.
