    We are looking to further enhance our team by adding a

    Software Build and Deployment Engineer

    You will be based initially for 2 years at our client’s headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. Extension of a further 2 years may be possible. In this large European Agency you will find an excellent and modern working environment with challenging tasks and responsibilities.

    Your Tasks Include:

    As a member of the CSM Software Librarian team, the consultant shall provide support to the development and maintenance of all current and future operational ground segments. The main duties are the maintenance and the re-design of the as-built software build environments and the building, packaging and distribution of any software that can be built on-site. Furthermore the duties include a range of tasks, from support to the operation of the UNIX and Windows-based ground segment facilities, to the analysis, design, development, testing, and maintenance of software functions. They also include the setting-up and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures as well as the co-ordination with external providers of maintenance services.

    In particular the tasks will include:

    • Maintenance and development of the as-built software build environments;
    • Building, packaging and distribution of software releases and patches;
    • Support to programmers with respect to software build and development strategies;
    • Support the delivery of software externally developed; its installation, configuration and testing;
    • Investigation into anomalies, their documentation and classification; follow up of the delivery of S/W corrections;
    • Participation in technical meetings and formal reviews;
    • Analysis of the maintenance requirements and identification, procurement or implementation of the tools to fulfill them; writing of maintenance procedures;
    • Interfacing with external contractors who are providing maintenance services for ground segment facilities


    Your Profile:

    In addition to having a University degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, the Key person shall have experience of S/W development, configuration controlled software build environments, and experience in S/W packaging, installation and configuration for the operation and maintenance of large, real-time Monitoring & Control / Data Processing systems.

    The Key person shall have significant work experience in Unix and Unix-like Operating System environments and in Windows and Windows Server-based environments. He/She should be familiar, to the extent required by the performance of the above tasks, with networking, distributed applications, and TCP/IP services.

    Knowledge and experience of the following programming languages, software tools and processes is mandatory:

    • Essential knowledge and experience in using Unix/Linux command line tools
    • Software build environments and tools (e.g. autoconf/automake, make, ANT, Maven);
    • Source Code control systems, preferably SVN, GIT, CVS or ClearCase;
    • Experience with various software packaging formats (RPM, PKG, LPP...)
    • Experience in unattended, centralized software installation mechanisms (PXE/TFTP, NIM, AutoYast, kickstart etc.)
    • Scripting languages (e.g. Bash/Shell, Perl, Python ...);
    • Basic UNIX/Linux System Administration;
    • C/C++ programming languages;
    • Java programming language;
    • Change Management.

    Practical knowledge of as many as possible of the following software tools and products will be an advantage:

    • Basic Windows System Administration;
    • Database programming (Sybase and/or Oracle);
    • ECLIPSE or a similar IDE;
    • Formalized Software Testing;
    • MS-Access, Visual Basic programming;
    • FORTRAN programming;
    • Serena Dimensions CM

    The key person shall display:

    • Very good communication, presentation, and team working skills combined with the ability to perform under very high workloads;
    • The ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and obtain a system overview;
    • A high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills.

    The official languages are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the key person must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other.
