    Job Description

    We are looking to further enhance our team by adding a

    Ground Segment Infrastructure Maintenance Engineer

    You will be based initially for 2 years at our client’s headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. Extension of a further 2 years may be possible. In this large European Agency you will find an excellent and modern working environment with challenging tasks and responsibilities.

    Your Tasks Include:

    As a support to the GSI IM&E team, the Ground Segment Infrastructure Maintenance Engineer shall provide support to the Copernicus Sentinel-3 operational support and maintenance of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 infrastructure. The duties range from the installation, testing, maintenance and operational support of the mission-specific and MME infrastructure. This may include the setting-up and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures, the support to the procurement of hardware and software, and the coordination with external service providers.

    In the performance of these tasks, the consultant shall apply the Client’s configuration and change control procedures as well as the relevant system engineering standards, quality management procedures and maintenance procedures.

    The consultant is expected to support the writing and reviewing of the requirement specifications and change proposals, to support the preparation of procurements, to participate in technical inspections and reviews, to support the documentation of the ground segment infrastructure system design, to contribute to the writing of evaluation reports, review reports, test reports and overall status reports and to support the change management procedures related to Copernicus Sentinel-3 and MME infrastructure.

    The tasks of the Consultant will include:

    Generate and maintain installation documentation, including layout diagrams, Infrastructure Interface Control Documents, cabling database, network diagrams using the Struxurware data center management and iPatch cabling management tools;

    Contribute to the definition of the layouts in the operational rooms;

    Perform the physical installation of infrastructure for the S-3 equipment installation, such as: cables, interface panels, network devices, consoles, racks and furniture;

    Support the evaluation of compatibility of Data protection solution proposed by the S-3 programme with the existing SNI operational system;

    Liaison with the external providers of SNI H/W and S/W maintenance for the request and follow up of maintenance interventions;

    Maintain the S-3 Requirements Specifications on Operational Infrastructure, covering the building infrastructure and SNI for Data protection aspects;

    Participation in any necessary meetings and reviews;

    Provision of support, as required, to critical operations during system commissioning operations.

    Perform any task as directed by the GSI IM&E Manager

     

    Your Profile

    In addition to having a university degree (or equivalent working experience), the consultant shall have at least 5 years working experience in the field of building infrastructure and Data protection

    Knowledge and hands-on experience with the following is mandatory:

    Server rooms layout design, with optimal occupation of space for racks and efficient usage of resources (power and cooling);

    Inter-rooms and inter-buildings data connection techniques;

    Racks installation, cable laying and equipment installation and testing;

    Electrical power distribution infrastructure;

    Technical Drawing software packages i.e. MS Visio;

    Operation of backup and recovery solutions

    Development and maintenance of complex operational ground systems, preferably in the area of 24/7 operational remote sensing satellites;

    Experience of ground segments which are designed and developed taking advantage by the re-use of existing generic infrastructure and functional elements;

    System and Interfaces Engineering / AIT experience for the development of major upgrades / new ground systems in a 24/7 operational environment.

    Working experience with Struxureware DCIM tool and iPatch cable management tool

    Experience in the administration and troubleshooting on some of the following shall be considered as an advantage:

    Networking & Communications

    Satellite Monitoring and Control systems

    Data dissemination and archiving

    Near Real-Time Data Processing,

    The Consultant shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work without supervision within the team.

    The official languages are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the key person must be able to work effectively in this language.
