Quality Assurance for Essential Climate Variables Engineer
You will be based initially for 1 year at our client’s headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. In this large European Agency you will find an excellent and modern working environment with challenging tasks and responsibilities.
Your Tasks Include:
The tasks of the key person will include:
Generation of data records;
Analysis of the data record quality employing quality monitoring procedures and other validation techniques and data as appropriate;
Acquisition of relevant data from internal and external sources to support product quality monitoring;
Support implementation, processing and validation of the product with other international partners e.g. JMA, NOAA/NCDC;
Preparation of QA4ECV data for ingestion into the Data Centre;
Compilation of relevant data set documentation including validation reports, user guides and format descriptions;
Compilation of project result presentations and participation in project progress meetings.
In addition to having a University degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, the key person shall have strong technical skills with a minimum of 1 year experience in the implementation of software for delayed mode processing of satellite data.
The key person is required to have strong experience with the following mandatory skills:
Programming languages C/C++ and/or FORTRAN;
Working in unix/linux environment;
Scripting languages, such as Python, Perl, shell;
Analysis and graphic software such as IDL;
Data formats such as NetCDF-4, GRIB, HDF5, and BUFR.
Furthermore, the key person shall have knowledge in the following areas:
Processing and monitoring of large volume of remote sensing data;
Validation of satellite products.
Knowledge in the following areas would be an advantage:
Operational product processing environments;
Data bases such as MySQL and Oracle;
EUMETSAT Meteosat missions and instruments;
Retrieval of parameters using visible wave lengths;
Calibration of satellite observations in the visible spectral range.
The key person shall have very good communication and presentation skills. The key person shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and structured manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision.
The official languages are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore key persons must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other.
