Data Centre Operations Engineer and Software Engineer (17-1-038)
We are looking for someone to provide 50% technical support to the operations and evolution of the Data Centre Services at EUMETSAT, and 50% technical support to the Solenix Software Engineering Team. With regards to the EUMETSAT position, you shall support the Data Centre Operations team and your main tasks will include:
•Provision of support to the daily monitoring of the Data Centre, and analysis and reporting of operational anomalies.
•Provision of support to the user queries received by the user service helpdesk regarding Data Centre services.
•Provision of support to the test automation of the Data Centre upgrades.
•Support to the development of Data Centre tools for monitoring, for reporting and to improve the usability of Data Centre services.
•Provision of support to prototyping concepts for evolving the Data Centre services to support current and future EUMETSAT programmes.
•Provision of support to the coordination of reprocessing activities.
•Provision of support to metadata content and their specification in Data Centre products.
•Preparation and maintenance of Data Centre documentation such as operational procedures and service guides for users.
Within the Software Engineering Team you will work on the full software development lifecycle from requirement development to testing, implementation and maintenance working on a range of topics from new products to upgrades of existing contracts. Depending on your level of experience there are possibilities to work in different roles, giving you a fantasic opportunity to develop you skills in a unique industry.
Required Skills and Experience
You shall have skills and experience in the following mandatory areas:
•Programming experience in C/C++, Java, scripting languages such as Shell, Perl and Python.
•Working experience in a UNIX environment.
•Knowledge of GWT, Angular, and/or similar web application frameworks.
•Knowledge of source code version control systems such as Git and SVN.
•Knowledge of software development environments such as Eclipse.
•Knowledge of XML/XSD/XLT.
•Excellent team working skills, be able to work autonomously and have good analytical skills.
•Very good communication and presentation skills combined with the ability to perform under high workloads.
•Able to work in an international team.
•Fluency in English.
Desirable Skills and Experience
•Experience with working with Earth Observation data and their visualisation and processing.
•Knowledge of Earth Observation data formats and standards.
