A senior technical architect is sought for the Galileo Ground Control Segment (GCS).
This is a key role on a high profile project to design, procure, deploy and verify the ground control segment for the Galileo
constellation of satellites.
The successful candidate will act as the system design authority for the Galileo Control Segment with full responsibility for the
Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:
Key duties include:
¤ Requirements analysis and flow down
¤ Architectural design using formal methods
¤ Interface definition
¤ Anomaly investigation and design of resolutions
¤ Support to technical meetings with customers and suppliers
¤ Provide technical leadership to teammates through coaching and mentorship.
¤ Provide software architecture and design expertise to the programme and develop others in this area
¤ Maintain high standards quality within the team by establishing good practices and habits.
¤ Identify and encourage areas for growth and improvement within the team.
¤ Lead peer-reviews of solution designs
¤ Analyse and resolve technical and application problems.
¤ Adhere to high-quality development principles while delivering solutions on-time and on-budget.
¤ Acting as the central technical authority on the project for all design aspects.
¤ Managing the customer interface for all technical issues
We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:
¤ Previous experience of the design of large, complex mission critical systems is essential.
¤ Comprehensive working knowledge of appropriate software design methodology and supporting toolsets, e.g. OO and modular
¤ Successful track record and experience of designing, developing and delivering technical integrated technical solutions
¤ Strong written communications, and ability to write proposals, technical reports, design documents and project processes
¤ Strong verbal communications and ability to confidently and coherently talk at all levels; engineers through to customers.
¤ Strong customer facing skills, integrity and confidence with good presentation skills
¤ Technical leadership, able to self-manage and direct/mentor the technical team, and to enforce technical direction in a matrix
¤ Proven track record of developing solutions to strict delivery timescales and budgets
¤ Needs to understand detailed technical issues whilst maintaining a view of the bigger picture in consideration with strategic
¤ Able to work across the key technical domains:
o Bespoke flight operations applications (mission control systems, satellite simulators etc)
o Infrastructure (Linux, VMWare, HP servers, thin client technologies, networks )
o Security ( Protective Monitoring, Access Control etc)
o Systems Integration & Interoperability
¤ A background in satellite flight operations systems is desirable but not essential.
¤ Experience of ESA flight operations infrastructure would be advantageous (i.e. SCOS-2000, SIMSAT etc) or equivalent
products (e.g. EPOCH, L-3 InControl-NG, Open Centre etc).
