A vacancy for a Research and Development Technician has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space in Stevenage. You will join TSMONS8.
As part of the Research and Process Technology Group (R&PT) provide support the Laboratory/workshop through the development of processes and manufacture of all test pieces, development and non-flight hardware as requested.
Perform mechanical assembly, integration, modification and structural repair. Ensure continuous improvement. Perform first level Quality inspection. Inputs: Raw materials, tools, standards parts and components, documentation (technical instruction, work order and job card). Outputs: Assembly ready for testing with associated production documentation.
The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs.
¤ To work in the R&PT Lab and associated areas with minimal supervision to high standard of workmanship
¤ Carry out the manufacture of test pieces and non-flight hardware in line with the relevant paperwork, minimal instruction and in line with the need dates
¤ A self- starter capable of offering solutions to complex assembly problems and assist engineers in determining the best process
¤ Devise novel assembly techniques for development component manufacture where specific tooling is not available
¤ Document and complete work according to company RDWR procedure.
¤ To participate in discussions and contribute to technical problem solving within the R&PT boundary.
¤ Support, where necessary, the introduction of new process into operations
¤ Perform operator training, with respect to new process introduction (train the trainer), when necessary
¤ Prepare, use, apply, handle and dispose of chemical and hazardous substances such as epoxy adhesives and solvents as used in the R&PT lab.
¤ To be able to read and understand technical documents (Drawings, procedures, technical notes, etc).
¤ Keep the R&PT lab/workshop (tools, toolboxes, workstations, etc) clean and tidy (5S).
¤ HNC/ONC in Mechanical or Technician Apprenticeship
¤ Experience in assembly, manufacturing or production environment.
¤ Knowledge of Fiber reinforced plastics and adhesive bonding processes
¤ Previous experience in Aerospace , Communications
¤ Able to work in and R&T environment with minimal supervision or technical instruction.
¤ Able to solve own problems and aware of Health & Safety requirements
¤ A self-starter, able to produce a high of standard work under pressure
