    Job Description

    For the activities at one of our customers in Darmstadt, Germany, we are urgently looking for two Junior Software Engineers (3-5 years’ work experience) for an initial period of 6-9 months, with possibility for further extension up to a permanent contract.

    The successful candidates will carry out software maintenance (mainly anomaly investigations and bug fixing) and minor evolution tasks on complex, 24x7 operational data distribution systems. This may include (among other tasks):

     

    Software Maintenance and Support

    System performance and behaviour monitoring

    Problem investigation and anomaly raising

    Second line support

    Development and implementation of software fixes

    System configuration and installation

     

    Software Testing

    Regression testing for corrections and evolutions

    Acceptance of external software.

    Integration Verification & Validation (IV&V) activities

     

    Technical Documentation and Reporting

    Preparation and production of routine reports as necessary.

    Production and maintenance of Test Plans and Test Cases

    Maintenance of Operational Procedures, SRDs, ADDs, ICDs and other technical documentation

     

    The successful candidate should have the following

    Required skills

    programming languages: C/C++ and/or Java, and/or JavaScript

    experience with Operating Systems shell scripting (e.g. shell, bash, Perl, python)

    knowledge of network protocols, mainly TCP/IP, FTP, multicast.

     

    and as many as possible of the following

    Optional skills:

    previous experience in a formal software development environment

    software configuration control systems (subversion and/or git).

    Web and Cloud technologies

    Virtualized Systems (VMware, containers, etc…)

    Software Continuous integration

    Meteorological Data Formats (HDF5, NetCDF, JPEG2000, etc).
