    Solenix is specialized in the provision of high-quality software engineering, technical consulting and operations services in the aerospace domain. This vacancy note concerns an on-site consulting position at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany.

    Job Description
    We are looking for a Software Support Engineer for our client, EUMETSAT. As part of a service team, you will provide support to the Data Services Competence Area. The work is focused on maintenance and engineering services for data visualization through the EUMETView Web Mapping service and on the user management interfaces. Your tasks will include, but not be limited to:

    ♦ Technical assistance to different EUMETSAT teams including Operational teams
    ♦ Second line support for operational issues
    ♦ Support to the maintenance and evolution of the EUMETView (including migration to pytroll/satpy) and of the EUMETSAT User Management services (including migration of metadata to JSON based dialect)
    ♦ Support to requirements analysis, architecture design definition verification and acceptance of deliveries
    ♦ Support to development and implementation
    ♦ Maintaining technical baseline documentation

    In the future, the systems will undergo a complete re-engineering to provide a full integration of the existing data services with a more product-centric and seamless user experience.

    Required Skills and Experience
    ♦ Master’s degree or equivalent from an accredited university
    ♦ Fluency in English
    ♦ Capability to work in a team
    ♦ Experience in all engineering lifecycle activities (e.g. requirements definition, design, development, integration, verification and validation)
    ♦ Definition and formalization of interfaces between complex systems
    ♦ 4+ years of experience with the following technologies:
        • XML, XML Schema and XSLT technologies
        • Portal technologies, web application server, web security concepts and Identity Managements (SSO)
        • Experience in Web UI/UX design, navigation usability and best practices
        • Extensive experience with OGC Web Map, Web Feature and Web Coverage (WMS, WFS, WCS) and Web Map Tile services
        • Solid Experience with Geoserver
        • Experience with geospatial and meteorological formats (e.g., NetCDF, BUFR, GRIB2, HDF5)
        • Web API security and management technologies (access and authorisation) Oauth2, OpenID Connect
        • Relational and NoSQL Databases Knowledge, Administration and Design: Postgres, MySQL, ElasticSearch
        • Solid working experience with Kubernetes (deployment, operations)
        • Working experience with Gateway APIs such as WSO2
    ♦ 4+ years of experience with the following software languages:
        • Java, Javascript (Ecmascript), CSS/SASS and Angular web applications

        • Experience of software development stack with Spring (Framework, Boot, Data, Batch, Security) and design patterns as discovery
        • Experience in creating RESTful/HTTP based services, web frameworks and cloud native applications
        • Python programming and use of the scientific python ecosystem (conda, xarray and dask, numpy, panda, …)
        • Solid experience with pytroll ( for generating raster images

    ♦ Working experience with Micro service architectures
    ♦ Experience with modern software practices such as TDD, CI/CD
    ♦ Formalised Software Testing
        • Testing frameworks (JUnit, JMeter, Postman, Robot Framework)
    ♦ Good understanding of Linux and in particular the posix system calls
        • System level programming including scripting in Bash, Python
    ♦ Experiences managing virtual machines, and docker containers


    Desirable Skills and Experience

    ♦ Practical knowledge of the following will be a distinct advantage:
        • Experience in service definition and specification
        • Experience with the implementation of operational 24/7 services
        • Solid working experience with Kubernetes and Rancher (deployment,
        • Proven experience of distributed monitoring and tracing with ELK, Fluentd, Prometheus, Graphana
        • Experiences managing virtual machines, and docker containers
        • Experience developing desktop graphical user interfaces for visualizations using Vispy and QT
        • Experience in metadata format for scientific data products such as ISO 19115, OGC Observation and Measurements, dataset.
        • Experience in harvesting and discovering metadata using OGC CSW
