We are looking for an Experimental Engineer to join the Propulsion team. Your team is composed of experienced professionals in plasma physics, mechanics, material science, electronics, fluidics. You will be responsible for carrying out experimental activities liked to the development of our Hall thrusters and other subsystems.

Your main tasks will be:

  • prepare, execute and analyse results of tests on prototypes of Hall thrusters in our vacuum chambers.
  • execute and analyse results of tests on qualification and flight models of our propulsion units - including electronics and gas management subsystems.
  • prepare, execute and analyse results on various research projects, including cathodes, anodes and other plasma-related devices developments.

The selected candidate must prepare and perform the tests. These activities include the definition of the test hardware and software, installation of the experimental setup and the planification of the tests. Your main goal is to execute the test and extract meaningful information out of it. This information will be presented and shared with the development team in a very iterative and flexible way. You will also be responsible for the specification, design, upgrade and deployment of test setups.

Preferred Experience

Exotrail is looking for a pro-active candidate. The candidate must have hands-on experience with laboratory equipment, willing to experiment and to critically analyse the results. They shall have a Master's degree in an engineering field related to aerospace, mechanics or physics. The candidate should have 2+ years of experience, but junior profiles will also be considered.

In this position, you will be responsible of many of the experimental work done in Exotrail in collaboration with our electronics, fluidics and mechanical engineers and propulsion engineers. This position requires a high level of autonomy and very good communications skills. The candidate must always look for information to efficiently perform its various duties.

This role requires the following skills:

  • You are not afraid working in a changing and challenging environment.
  • You are familiar with electric propulsion and have hand-on experience in this field.
  • You have experience with software for test applications, such as LabView.
  • You have a critical mindset and want to understand the behaviour of your experiments.
  • You are willing to take measured risks.
  • You have a high degree of autonomy.
  • You have deep technical skills with a real interest for the topic covered in this job offer.
  • You have great communication skills, both writing- and speaking-wise.
  • You have good technical writing skills and you are proficient in English.
  • You want to bring agility to space and develop new services based on high-level technologies.
  • You are interested in working in a start-up environment.
