Job Description

ispace Japan is seeking a highly motivated and talented Payload Engineer to join the team coordinating the customer payloads to the ispace landers and rovers. The ideal candidate will have broad experience in the customer coordination with good technical knowledge of multiple spacecraft subsystems. This is a unique opportunity to join a truly fascinating project, during the growth of ispace’s plans of the lunar transportation service. In this position, you will join a small team and collaborate with international engineers.

The position will be based in Japan HQ and will report to the Payload Team manager. The potential candidate is required to oversee the technical accommodation of payloads on our landers from requirements definition through verification and validation. This position is based in Tokyo, Japan. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Perform feasibility studies and develop requirements, payload interface documents, statement of work, test procedures, etc. with payload customers;
  • Be responsible for the technical interfaces with payload customers, including progress meetings, documentation generation and update;
  • Technical interface coordination between the customer and ispace lander team (mechanical, thermal, electrical, software, etc.);
  • Support the planning of effort and resources needed for payload support and integration, including listing deliverables, timelines and milestones;
  • Support the potential customer who wish to accommodate their payload to the ispace lander/rover with closed contact with the Sales team.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Bachelor or Masters degree in Engineering/Science or equivalent;
  • 3+ years of work experience in the aerospace industry or equivalent;
  • Knowledge of the system engineering (either electrical or mechanical);
  • Thrive in multi-disciplinary environment in close cooperation with engineering and sales teams;
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience) 

  • Experience of the 3D CAD and Drawings;
  • Familiarity with spacecraft design and test standards: e.g. NASA-STD, ECSS, JAXA-STD, MIL-STD;
  • Experience performing FMECA, reliability design, and/or hazard analysis;
  • Knowledge of spacecraft subsystems and interfaces;
  • Experience of overall process of the space product development;
  • Be highly organized and capable of planning and executing complex technical work.
