The telescope group at IRAM/Granada, Spain, is responsible for the maintenance of the 30-meter telescope, notably the hardware subsystems as the prime reflector, sub-reflector, mount, thermal control, electrical systems, etc.

IRAM seeks a telescope engineer at IRAM/Granada. Reporting to Head of the Group, and in close collaboration with the other members of the group, the position holder will perform the tasks summarised below. It is assumed that the duties to be carried out are not limited to those below and a flexible approach and willingness to adapt are required.

  • Maintenance of the mechanical and electronic components of the telescope (servo-control, telescope surface, telescope deicing system, thermal control, gears, motors, etc.);
  • Maintenance of the observatory infrastructure (timing, meteorological station, air conditioning, electricity, water supply, fire extinguishing system, etc.);
  • Telescope calibration (pointing model, efficiencies, etc.);
  • Support to VLBI observing campaigns;
  • Support of the maintenance of back-ends in close collaboration with the specialist in the Astronomy Group.

A degree or MSc in engineering or Physics is required. Experience in the maintenance and/or operation of similar facilities will be a strong asset.

A good level of English is required, Spanish and/or French knowledge is considered a plus. If requested a Spanish language training will be provided.
